Snap, Crackle, POP

First of all, big thanks to Katie at the Runs For Cookies blog (www.runsforcookies.com) for featuring my blog and me in her “Motivational Monday” post on 7/29/13! I LOVE that site and highly recommend it to any folks who are looking for good personal weight loss blogs.

Ok, so here’s the thing. I love, love, LOVE pop. No matter what flavor it is, I probably love it. I know there are lots of varying opinions out there on this, but I also firmly believe that pop (even diet!) is in no way, shape, or form, beneficial to the human body. I’ve read a lot of things that say that diet pop is almost worse than regular pop, because it is 1000 times “fake” sweeter, so it tricks your body into thinking it’s drinking something sweet, and then does the damage just like regular pop.

I have to keep this in mind when I fall into the, “but diet pop is 0 points!” train of thought. Before I re-started WW in mid-February, I have no idea how much pop I was even drinking a day. At least 2 cans a day, if not more. It’d be a mixture of diet and regular, but I NEEDED it to get through my day. I didn’t want to be super dependent on something like this, so I decided that I’d make the switch to *mostly* water. So although I still love pop, I limit myself to 1-2 per week, if that.

This week, I haven’t done so well on my pop quota. Patrick and I went out for lunch last Thursday, and I had a small glass of diet pepsi. I was really stressed out at work on Friday, so I had a can of Diet Coke. Sunday, I was REALLY craving a pop before Dexter, and ended up getting a small polar pop (still diet). While I haven’t had any regular pop and all of this is still technically 0 points, I’m somewhat disappointed that I’ve allowed myself 3 for the week. I’m even thinking about going back for a can this afternoon, as for some reason today I feel EXHAUSTED and just want that little burst of energy. I’m going to try really hard not to do it–we’ll have to see, lol.

Last night, Patrick and I went on another long walk on the trail, but this time with Clara. It was a wonderful walk–here are some pics of our trail!

Great weather!

Great weather!

A little creek!

A little creek!

We spent most of the walk talking about Sadie, and how we’re thinking about giving her back to the shelter where we got her. We’ve been thinking about it for a bit now, but are really starting to get pretty serious about it. It KILLS me to think about giving her up because I seriously love that dog to PIECES, but she and Clara really can’t ever be around each other without trying to kill each other. We have to keep them separated at all times, and I can’t imagine how stressful that is for them. She will be a great dog for someone who maybe only wants one dog or who has a dog that would get along with her–but let’s be real–we want to have kids someday, and I just don’t see how both our crazy dogs plus kids can fit in the picture together. At this point, I really feel like keeping her instead of giving her a home where she can be out and cute all the time is a lot more selfish on our part than anything else. Anyway, sorry for the downer! Not sure what will happen but I’ll keep y’all posted.

Tonight is zumba–so revved and ready for it! 4 days is seriously way too long to go without a zumba class, in my opinion. Our instructor might even add a new song/dance tonight, so I am super excited for that. Woooohoo! Hope everyone is having a great Tuesday–it’s almost hump day!!

  1. Giving up sodas is so hard! It really is. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t crave something sugary like that. It’s hard when the craving hits to even get it out of my head. Thankfully though, I’ve been completely soda free since last November. Why break that streak now! 😉
Sorry to hear about your doggie predicament. That’s such a tough call. Sounds like they are both better suited to be single pet household doggies. ((HUGS)) with that decision.

    • Desiree, I agree. Good for YOU for being completely pop free for almost a year, that is a huge accomplishment! I bet you feel better, too. And thanks about the doggies–I know it will work out, whatever happens!

  2. You mean SODA? 🙂 lol

I work with a lot of people who are originally from Michigan and I give them a hard time for saying “pop”.

I still drink diet soda, but I try to limit myself to one a day, at lunchtime. I may have more on the weekends, but I still try to load up on water.

    • Hahahaa!! I worked in Michigan for 6 summers at a Fine Arts Camp, and the way they say pop is so funny…it’s pretty much like they’re saying, “pap,” …um gross. lol.

Good for you for limiting yourself. I find that if I forbid myself, I usually will succumb sooner or later…thanks for reading!

  3. i love soda too, i know eventually im going to have to cut back (i have actually) i drink a diet soda with lunch, then one with dinner. that is usually it. before i used to drink at least 4 a day. i figured if i got down to 25 lbs below where i am right now with drinking it, that i can make it that far before i need to figure out if i have to give it up.
