Weekend Update

This blog title makes me think of Tina Fey–I wish I was as funny as her!

At any rate, I had a GREAT weekend! Lots of fun stuff happening, not to mention it was absolutely BEAUTIFUL WEATHER!

Friday night we had game night and played 13th age again–it was really fun! We also had some delicious pork BBQ that Bre had made. She is such a good cook! Our friend Jman was back that night after 2 weeks of being gone for friends’ wedding stuff, so it was great to see him. It was a really good time! We got home around 11:30pm and I went right to bed because I knew I’d have to be up for my FIRST 5K at 7am on Saturday.

So, Saturday morning I woke up bright and early and went to registration. It didn’t end up being just a huge huge race, but there were lots of people who participated. I was signed up to walk, and was just hoping for a sub 58:00 minute race, as that’s the only other 5k pace I’ve ever walked (on the treadmill) several weeks ago. I registered at 7:30 and got my goody bag and numbers…it was super exciting!

Before the race 1

before the race 2

The race itself was GREAT. There were only like 4 of us walkers, and I came in FIRST of the group with a time of 47:45! I was SUPER proud that I had shaved my time by more than 10 minutes, and it was a great workout. There were a couple of hills, so that was hard. Also, like 1/4 of it was on the grass of the baseball fields, so my feet got super soggy and I didn’t like that especially because that was at the BEGINNING of the race, so my feet were wet the whole rest of the time. Overall though, it was a great first race. My lungs weren’t dying and the air was coldish and crisp, but didn’t feel like it when I was walking. I (somehow) managed to snap this beautiful picture while walking at a 4.0 mph pace, lol–how is it not blurry!?!

Isn't this beautiful?

Isn’t this beautiful?

So yeah, I felt great after the race. I felt so good, in fact, that I went over to see my parents on their farm. It was just such a beautiful morning that I wanted to see the animals–I didn’t want to just go home and sit on the couch all morning. So, I went there and visited for a bit. Then Patrick went to play disc golf while I met up with one of my good friends from high school–she’s in med school right now and doing a rotation at a doctor’s office here, so it was really nice to see her. She’s lost quite a bit of weight herself, with what she calls the “med school diet,”–lol, this basically means (in her words), “forgetting to eat.” Ha! She looks really great, though, and makes really good food choices now.

Went to the library to get some audiobooks–Stephen King “The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon” and “Carrie.” I really want to see Carrie now that it’s coming out as another movie–I’ve never seen the original one, and I know I need to! When I got home, I wanted a treat, so I got some apple cake with ice cream. Look at this yumminess!

OK, So I am now writing this post like a week after I started this post. I can’t even remember what I did on Sunday (besides laundry and watching the HORRIBLE Dexter season/series finale…honestly, it was so horrible…just, ew.). On Monday, I left for Nashville, TN. I had an absolutely AWESOME time! It was a great trip–the way that Nashville does their fair week is really cool–basically, you schedule yourself to go to all these different fairs at different schools (usually like 3-5 per day) and so you end up going around with all the same reps from different colleges. I met some really nice gals and it was really fun to hang out with them–I even carpooled one day with a new friend from Radford University! It was so much fun. I was just SO busy that honestly I had no time whatsoever to update.

As far as food is concerned, I’ve been doing baaaaadly. I mean really bad. I’ve not stopped tracking any food at all, so that is good, but I’ve eaten all my activity points this week and almost all of my weekly points already. I’ve just had really weirdly scheduled things, so I haven’t been able to eat good snacks or food at the right times, etc. It’s just been so messed up–but I’m ok. Yesterday I had a quick break in between Nashville at home and weighed myself in the AM WITH clothes on, which I usually don’t do. It said I had gained 2 lbs since last week, but that’s including clothes, so I probably only had gained a lb or less, maybe? I never know how much clothes weigh. If I only gain 2 lbs with this crazy week of eating I’ll be satisfied. Trying to get back on track on this travel trip…I’ll update more when I’m at home this Thursday-Saturday. Phew! Hope everyone is doing well..sorry for the lack of updates, I promise I’m alive!!

Tomorrow is the first 5k I am walking! OK so obviously I am not super excited about this because I’m only walking it and kind of wish I was able to run it. BUT if I keep up the C25k program, hopefully I’ll be able to run one someday!

Tomorrow’s 5k is a walk/run that takes place on the campus where I work, and it’s happening during Homecoming. I think it’ll be fun–upon suggestion from Desiree @ http://www.skinnygeekwithin.blogspot.com (sorry I have no idea how to do that awesome thing where I do a link…I am so lame!) I e-mailed the person in charge and asked what the route would be. She said it “toured campus” so that means that there will be some hills..blaaaaaah. Oh well, it’s much more like real life anyway, so that’s fine. Plus it’s supposed to be great weather tomorrow morning, and our campus is beautiful. Just look at this!

So pretty!

So pretty!

After the 5k, I’m going to go home and rest for a bit, then meet my friend Allison from high school at a coffee shop. Then, tomorrow night, Patrick and I are doing the “out to eat” portion of our anniversary celebration and going to Red Lobster. I haven’t been there for a million years, so I’m sure it’ll be good! I am annoyed though because Red Lobster doesn’t take reservations, and so we’ll probably have to wait FOREVER to get seated. Maybe we’ll just go there and eat at like 4 or 5 when all the old people go. lol.

Sunday is crying my eyes out because it’s over Dexter series finale day. I am thinking about making like blood spatter cupcakes or cookies or something for this…idk yet, though. On Monday, I’m off on my next work trip for 5 whole days! It’ll be a long one–but I’ll try and update the blog intermittently so as to avoid RIDICULOUSLY long entries like the last one…:) Have a great weekend, friends!

Long Overdue Update!

Aight y’all, I am SO sorry that I haven’t posted in a zillion years. Work travel will do that–I had the opportunity to post a couple of times this past trip, but I was just so exhausted that I wasn’t feeling it. So, I’ll start with last Friday and go from there! First, though, I have to share the news about my INCREDIBLY AWESOMELY AMAZING WEIGH IN TODAY:

Yes, that says MINUS 8.8 LBS!

Yes, that says MINUS 8.8 LBS!

I almost literally passed out when I got on the scale this morning! That’s not 1, not 2, not 3, but 3.6 FRIGGIN’ POUNDS lost this past week! I can’t believe it, I almost started crying because that is such a huge loss, and it’s even in the midst of my work travel–wtf?! I am so happy–looks like the combo of zumba + C25k is a real winner…I got 35 activity points this week and only ate about 15 of them, so that probably helped. C25k last Wednesday, zumba Thursday, short walk w/ hubby and Clara Friday, 4 mile walking DVD Saturday, and C25k Sunday. I even skipped 2 days (normally I try to only rest on one day) of working out and had this great loss. Of course, since I lost so much, I also lost one daily point to eat, so now I get 36 points a day. Sigh. I hate this part, especially as it’s right at the beginning of travel season. Oh well, obviously I can get through it!

Anyway, starting at last Friday. Game night turned into dinner and just sitting around talking for hours, playing a game that Bre and Scott bought at Gencon called “Geek Out.” Basically it’s trivial pursuit for geeks, so it was pretty fun. I had made the chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake for dessert, and it was pretty good! I also found a Michelob “light cider,” for only 1 point per bottle. It tastes a little bit like Red’s Apple Ale and is 4% alcohol, so it was really nice to be able to drink 3 of those and not feel bad about it at all!

Saturday was a SUPER super busy day. Woke up and had to drive to the vet to get Clara’s heartworm/flea prevention meds, then off to Avis to get my rental car. I got a Mazda 5, which is like a “mini” mini-van. It was a nice vehicle, but it hurt my back and shoulders to drive in it, even at optimum seat adjustments. Oh well–it got great gas mileage, which was nice, as I drove 629.5 miles in 3 days! After we went to Avis, we were pretty hungry, so we went to Applebee’s. I got one of my faves of their WW menu, the lime-jalapeno shrimp, which is only 8 points for the entire thing. It was yummy! I then went to my office and got the materials I had been storing there to make Patrick’s anniversary present and took it to Bre’s–I was planning on constructing it at our 2nd “Craft Therapy” session which happened that night. After that, I went home, cleaned the house a bit, and then did the 4-mile Leslie Sansone walking DVD. I DID THE WHOLE DAMN THING! That’s the first time I ever did all 4 miles, and I couldn’t believe how easy it was. Well, I wouldn’t say easy–but I didn’t feel the need to quit even though I was really tired. I know I burned a crap-ton of calories doing that, especially as the last mile adds a resistance band for strengh-training while you walk. Leslie says that that entire workout should theoretically burn off a meal’s worth of calories, so I counted it as like 8-10 points or something like that (which is a typical size lunch for me). It was a great workout! Then I showered and it was off to Bre and Scott’s for a cookout. We had yummy burgers and stuff–then at 6, the boys left and the gals stayed for our craft therapy. We each had a fake pumpkin that we were able to carve/decorate/whatever, and I decided to decoupage mine. It turned out to be super cute!:

The lighting isn't that great--sorry!

The lighting isn’t that great–sorry!

I love it, and it’s sitting on one of my bookshelves at home now πŸ™‚ Craft therapy is so fun–it’s just a time for us ladies to get together and attempt to do crafts that we’ve seen on Pinterest. There is usually quite a bit of wine involved, lol. I didn’t drink too much of it because I knew I had to get up at 6 the following morning to drive to Columbus, OH for work. I did have 2 glasses of Arbor Mist, and I think each of those are like 3 points each. I had done fine with my points for the day though, and wasn’t worried about it. OH, I also made Patrick’s anniversary present, which was a candygram! It ended up being really cute–it was a poem on a piece of posterboard that I interspersed with candy bars/candy to complete the poem. I don’t have a good picture of it, but he really liked it πŸ™‚

On Sunday, I got up bright and early and drove the 4 hours it took to get to Columbus, OH. I had an audiobook, called “The Dog Stars” by Peter Heller. Honestly, I didn’t finish it because I didn’t like it AT ALL. It was way too super depressing to listen to in the car driving on the highway, especially because SPOILER ALERT the guy’s dog dies and I was just like a sobbing mess on the highway…it was horrible! So yeah. Next time I am going to get a comedy (I really want Tina Fey’s bossypants) for my long drive when I leave next Monday. Sigh. First world problems. I got to Columbus and worked a really great college fair, then it was time to relax in my hotel. I was really excited about finding somewhere local to eat that night, but the district where I went to get some food was having some kind of event and there was NO parking anywhere! I was SO frustrated and super hungry and couldn’t find anywhere to eat, so I caved and went to the McDonald’s next to my hotel and watched Sister Wives for the rest of the night. lol. I got chicken nuggets and fries and I don’t even care–I still managed to stay within my points for the day. Oh yeah–after I got to my hotel after the college fair, I did the first of the 2nd week of C25k. This is harder–90 seconds of jogging sandwiched between 2 minutes of walking for a 31 minute workout. I thought I would die, but I made it through. I stayed on the treadmill for 15 more minutes and did 2.67 miles in 45 minutes. It was a great workout! So then I went to McDonald’s and stuff, so I didn’t feel as bad since I did that monster workout.

Monday was a bad, bad, bad day. I did a college fair that was not good at all, and I wasn’t really feeling well. I did go to Subway for lunch, which I felt like was a decent decision, except that Subway food isn’t any less processed than McDonald’s honestly. I’m pretty sure that “Eat Fresh” is like the opposite of what you’re doing when you go to Subway because of all the preservatives packed into their bread and meat, but it’s still better point-wise for me than a lot of other options. I drove to Dayton that night and went to sleep early, and felt a lot better. My hotel in Dayton was really nice–look at these beds!

Not only are they nice-looking, they were incredibly soft! I got a great night’s sleep there. When I woke up and got dressed the next morning before my high school visits, I glanced in the full-length mirror in the hotel room. I know that I’m wearing black on top and that’s slimming, but I was like DANG! I look skinnier! So I snapped a pic, lol:

Excuse the hair-drying towel on my head!

Excuse the hair-drying towel on my head!

Also, when I was in the elevator, I took a picture of what they had displayed on the door, it was a pic of the hot breakfast the hotel offered, and I took a pic because I thought to myself “who in America eats a breakfast that looks like this? This is such a Euro breakfast!”

And then I went downstairs to eat breakfast, and unknowingly constructed almost the exact same plate of breakfast as in the fake hotel pic, lol!! Here’s what I ate:

Yummy yum yum!

Yummy yum yum!

Hahaha, I thought it was so funny that I was seriously judging their fake-breakfast display in the elevator and then I pretty much ate the exact same things, lol. It was a great breakfast though! I did 4 high school visits yesterday in Dayton, and they all were great. I was able to find a little local pizza place for lunch, and it was so good, not to mention really affordable. I got a half of a small thin crust pizza and garlic bread/drink for $6.66 (lol, the lady at the cash register looked at me like I was Satan). I only ate 1/2 of the garlic bread! Here is my lunch (and yes, I know I went way too pic-happy in this entry!)

If you’re ever in Dayton, OH, you should try this place–it was so good! It’s called Marion’s Piazza, and according to some of the counselors at the schools that I visited, it is pretty much an institution! I’m really glad to have found a yummy, affordable local place. After my last high school, I drove back home and met Patrick to return the rental car. Yesterday was our 2-year anniversary!!

Let me just start this out with saying that Patrick is the best husband EVER! I got home and he was all snazzy and dressed up for me. He had told his teacher at auto tech school on Monday that yesterday was our anniversary, and his teacher told him to just take the day off! It was really nice of him to do that. So, when I got home, Patrick had cleaned the entire house, dressed all snazzy, put my present in the bathroom (it is a really fuzzy and warm zip-up bathrobe type thing–and ps, it is only an XL–AND IT FITS!), and warmed up a delicious concoction of apple cider + Crown Royale Maple in the crockpot! OMG and it doesn’t stop there…he then proceeded to make us a WONDERFUL dinner of marinated grilled chicken with fresh corn on the cob!!!! :

Needless to say, I was incredibly impressed. I love him so much!

Today it was back to the office and the grind until Friday. Then, I walk my first official 5k on Saturday, and off to my next work trip for a full workweek on Monday! Sorry for the INCREDIBLY long read and thanks to those who stuck with me through the whole post, ya’ll are great!

Friday the 13th!

So it’s Friday the 13th. I have nothing funny or witty or clever to say about this, so I’ll just leave it at that.

I am pretty tired as it has been a long week at work, but I am super excited that it’s the weekend, especially because I leave for my first work travel trip on Sunday! I’m only gone until Tuesday, however, which just happens to be OUR TWO YEAR WEDDING ANNIVERSARY! AWWWW! Since I’m out of town most of the day on Tuesday, we’re going to celebrate next Saturday the 21st.

On Wednesday night I did my third C25k workout and it was a SUPER FAIL all over the place. I completed it and then some, but it was rough. I had decided that I wanted to walk/jog the indoor track at the university where I work since it was so. damn. HOT outside! Not only was it hot, but the humidity was killer. So the indoor track was the best option. I don’t have a locker at the Sports and Rec Center, so I decided to leave everything in my car except for my phone/headphones and car key. I forgot, however, to bring my inhaler and to even take a couple puffs of it before starting the workout…BAD KELLY! My lungs were screaming for air the entire c25k workout..it was horrible, but I made it work. Also, I forgot to leave my sunglasses in the car, so they were either bouncing around in the front of my shirt and getting tangled w/ my headphones or falling off my head every 2 seconds. Horrible! After the 30 minute c25k workout, I stayed on the track and speedwalked for another 30 minutes. It was a great workout despite all the fails, and it was GREAT to get back to my car, take a puff of my inhaler, and drink a huge gulp (s) of water. Phew!

Yesterday I did zumba and our instructor was a little off, but it was still a great workout. Tonight is game night and I made this deliciousness:

Chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake!

Chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake!

Boy, I sure hope it tastes better than it looks–that thing is UG-LY! But I think it’ll be tasty. It’s 9 points for a serving, so I’ll probably go over my points just a little today, but that’s ok. I’ll be earning lots of activity points this week!

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day–Patrick and I have to go pick up my rental car for my trip, I need to pack and do laundry, then we have craft therapy session #2–everything pumpkin–at Bre’s house at 6. I’m going over there at 4 to help her make a pumpkin roll, yummy! It should be a good time. Sunday, I’ll leave bright and early to go on my first travel trip, yay! If I’m away from the blog because of this, don’t fret–I’ll be back on Wednesday and fill you all in then!

Hope everybody has a Happy Happy Happy weekend…:)

Yay, I lost today!:

Sorry for the blur--my ancient dinosaur known as iPhone 3 doesn't zoom in well...

Sorry for the blur–my ancient dinosaur known as iPhone 3 doesn’t zoom in well…

It says “-5.2”, which is 1 lb more than it said last week. So I lost 1 lb! Awesomesauce. I was surprised about this since TOM is in town, but am not gonna complain! Hoping to lose again next week, as I have a full week of workouts planned: C25k tonight, zumba tomorrow, C25k on both Saturday and Sunday, and some kind of treadmill work on Monday as I’ll be out of town for work. We’ll see–travel makes things difficult!

Zumba was awesome last night, as usual. Tonight I’m planning on running/walking the indoor track after work for the 3rd C25k workout..should be fun! I don’t have much to report today, I’m just excited that I lost!

Hope everyone is having a great week. It’s more than halfway over!

Sunshine Award!

I was recently notified that my good blogger friend Desiree nominated me for a Sunshine Award today:

Here are the details:

About the award:
The award is circulated to those bloggers to let them know that their posts brighten your day.
The Rules:
1. Include award logo in a post or on your blog (above).
2. Link to the person who nominated you – Desiree @ Finding the Skinny Geek Within: http://skinnygeekwithin.blogspot.com/

3. Answer 10 questions about yourself.
4. Nominate 10 bloggers to receive the award. Link your nominees to the post and comment on their blogs letting them know they’ve been nominated. (Note: Unfortunately, I am pretty new in the weight loss blogging world, and will only be able to nominate one other friend for this award–sorry!! If you catch me in another year or so, I could probably say different…)

Here we go!

1. What’s your favorite movie of all time?

Hands down, my absolute favorite movie of all time is probably Moulin Rouge with Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. I could sing the songs from that movie all day long, and I love Baz Luhrman!

2. What is the 42nd picture on your cell phone of? Lol, this is a just a background I downloaded from an app called “WallpapersHD” on my phone…

3. Who is your favorite author?

Stephen King. Love, love, love.

4. What is your best advice for anyone who is trying to lose weight?

If you fall “off the wagon,” so to speak, don’t forget to acknowledge that and get right back on! If you fall down the stairs, you wouldn’t just pick yourself up and throw yourself down again, would you? There will be bumps along the way–it’s the persistence that matters.

5. Favorite movie quote?

“You’re breaking up with me–with a PEN?” -Say Anything, John Cusack

6. Who is your celebrity crush?

This one is difficult…hmmm…there are SO many, but I’m going to have to go with either Alexander Skarsgard (Eric in True Blood) OR Joseph Gordon Levitt–he’s such a cutie patootie!

7. If you were given $10,000 to give to any charity, which one would you give to?

Also another hard one–probably anything that promotes healthy lifestyles amongst American kids…

8. What did you want to be when you were growing up?

What did I NOT want to be when I was growing up? At one point, (and I swear I’m not making this up), I actually wanted to be a judge…???

9. Since Fall is on the way, what was your favorite Halloween costume growing up?

The Pink Power Ranger. Hands down.

10. What’s your favorite inspirational or motivational quote?

I’m gonna have to go with Desiree on this one: “Do or do not. There is no try.” –Yoda

I nominate Jessica from “It is not just about the food” at http://itisnotjustaboutthefood.blogspot.com/. I’m going to keep Desiree’s questions for her to answer, because I think that they are really good!!

I had a great time at zumba last night and am looking forward to doing it again today after work. Sweating is the best! WI day tomorrow–fingers crossed for a good week!

Weekend Rewind

Well, this weekend turned out to be really nice, yay!

Friday night was game night and we ended up playing a game called 13th Age, which is sort of like DnD but a bit different. The coolest thing about this game is that each character gets to choose “one unique thing” about themselves, and pretty much nothing is off limits (unless it makes their ability levels outrageously awesome). For example, I couldn’t think of ANYTHING whatsoever and just decided to go the funny route, so I decided that I was going to have Cheetos for hands, lol. Bre was basically an anime cartoon, and one person had green skin. At any rate, it turns into a pretty funny game because of all of the ridiculous “unique” things. The DM gets to make up ridiculous things too, and because he liked my cheetos hands so much, he decided that we would all fight a big dragon made of cheetos at the end. It was really fun, and for some reason, seemed a bit easier to me than DnD. It’s my new fave game!

My chocolate cake was ok–I used a box devils food cake mix, and it was kind of dry–but I did make the nutella buttercream from scratch and DANG was it good. Yum yum! I only ate one piece, wooo!

On Saturday morning, I decided to not go to zumba and to just take it easy. I had taken Friday off from working out, but for some reason, my lungs were like DYING this weekend. IDK what it was, oh well. So I just lounged around and then decided to go to the library to get some audio books for my first work travel trip coming up next week to Ohio. I also got the materials needed to make Patrick’s anniversary present (no clues here in case he reads!) and dropped them off at my office so he wouldn’t see them. Then, I decided to go to Walmart to get some things I needed and also do some quick (yeah right, it was a Saturday) grocery shopping. SERIOUSLY THERE IS A REASON TO NEVER GO TO WALMART ON A SATURDAY. Omg it was AWFUL. People just standing around, taking a million years to read labels while I’m just waiting to pick up the kind of peanut butter I need. My GOD people, it’s just peanut butter! AKSDFJASKJDF!!! It drove me nuts. But then I finally got what I needed and went home.

We spent the rest of the afternoon at my parents’ farm, about 7 min away from where we live. We hadn’t seen my parents in a while, so we went over and my mom cooked dinner. I had requested her to make her roast, potatoes, and carrots–it’s one of my favorite thing she makes and is so so yummy! I made a snickers apple caramel salad for dessert (cool whip, vanilla pudding, snickers, apples, caramel..yum!) and it was good too. It was nice to hang out with my folks and see the animals. Patrick and I even indulged my dad in a game of Heroclix, he is obsessed and I had never played, and now that I am a gamer I wanted to play it! It was pretty fun, it’s basically like entirely combat with no role-playing. I liked it a lot! He has a LOTR version that I really want to play next time. Overall, it was a really great visit. I love going over there! πŸ™‚ Here are some pics:

Yesterday, we slept in a LOT accidentally because I forgot to set an alarm on Saturday night..oops! The rest of the day was pretty lazy, and I finished Wicked and started the second book in the series, “Son of a Witch.” Wicked is so sad! I was depressed for a bit, lol. I also went to the gym and did my 2nd 30-minute C25K workout…it was hard, because my lungs were totally not cooperating. I got through it, though! After those 30 min were up, I was fed up with the treadmill but wanted to do another 30 minutes, so I did a 1.5 mile quick walk around our indoor track. I was super sweaty, but it was worth it! I stepped on the scale this morning (even though TOM is in town, boo X 3920843) and was happy to see that I’ve lost 1 lb since last Wednesday. We’ll see if that stays the same as my WI this week falls directly in the middle of TOM. Such is life!

Hope everybody is having a great Monday! Zumba tonight!!
