NSV Friday

Howdy folks! It’s that time of week again–NSV Friday. I really look forward to this post every week; it keeps me focused on my non-scale progress, which is incredibly important to me. This week is sort of a quicky drive-by post, because we are swamped at work. So, here it is:

(A little backstory) Every time someone in my office has a birthday, we buy a cake and eat it too (haha, imagine that!) February is seriously, as my boss coined the other day “Cake-uary” in our office. Out of 10 people in our office, 5 of us have February birthdays. FIVE. THAT IS FIVE CAKES IN ONE MONTH. Ok, that is just ridiculous. So today was the first birthday in our office, so we had a cake. And what did I do? I didn’t eat a piece of cake! This is a victory not only in the obvious sense, but in the sense that it didn’t bother me one single bit that I wasn’t eating cake while everyone else was. I popped in a piece of gum and felt totally fine about the whole thing. (It helps that I made red velvet brownies last night for game night tonight and each serving of those weighs in at a whopping 11 points…I’m saving my points for THAT, not for cake)! So I was really proud of myself.

My birthday is next Thursday, so we’ll have a cake for that and obviously I’ll be eating a piece. But I will probably try to say no to the other pieces of cake the rest of the month. But I am super proud of myself for resisting! I also resisted dessert at lunch…a reeses cup. None for me, thanks! Now I’ll have no guilt whatsoever about enjoying that delicious red velvet brownie tonight. Mmmmmm.

Hope you all have had great NSV’s this week–remember, the NSV’s are what reeeeeally matter! Happy Friday! We are chilling out this weekend…much…..needed…:)

Weekly Weigh-In

Weigh In Wednesday

Well folks, it’s that time of week again:

"--20.2"

“–20.2”

Look at that, I lost 1.2 lbs this week! I am especially THRILLED with this loss for two reasons:

1. It’s TOM week…’nuff said.
2. I had a lot of temptation facing me in the form of fried chicken @ choir retreat (and pie, and mashed potatoes, and other potatoes, and pop, etc etc)

I was so happy when I stepped on the scale this morning–to actually see the number “–20” on the scale since purchasing it was so awesome. This week, I did the following workout schedule:

Wednesday: 60 minutes zumba toning with light weights
Thursday: 60 minutes zumba
Friday: rest
Saturday: 25 minutes walking/hiking in the snow @ choir retreat
Sunday: 30 minutes zumba
Monday: 60 minutes zumba
Tuesday: 40 minutes zumba

I am incredibly happy with this workout schedule and think that it really works for me. I’m back to zumba toning tonight, so that’ll be fun as usual. I earned about 26 activity points with this schedule, and ate every single one of them. I did not, however, eat a single one of my 49 weekly points. It is getting easier and easier to maintain this point total. It’ll be an adjustment when I lose more weight and thus lose more points, but I know I can handle it. I didn’t go down at all in inches this week, but typically if I have a big loss in lbs, I won’t see the inches move, and vice versa.

I’m now at my lowest weight that I have been this entire weight loss journey. I’m only 5.8 lbs away from that piece of jewelry reward, and only 16.8 lbs away from ONEderland. It is SO happening this year. I can’t wait!

Hope all y’all out there had great weigh-ins today!!

Choir Retreat 2014

Happy Sunday, all!

I am back at home safe, sound, cozy, and curled up with little Clara. We missed her while we were at choir retreat this weekend, but we had a BLAST as usual. Here are some highlights:

We loved staying in the cozy room and chilling out in the lodge-type lounge. I spent a lot of my weekend doing this, in fact:

book fire

It was so nice to be curled up in front of the fire. We had an awesome time singing most of the weekend and spending time with Patrick’s family. It was overall super relaxing! In our long break yesterday, we went on a walk through the park even though it was cold. We went down to the Falls and they were completely frozen–it was neat! I was thrilled because we got a little bit of activity in (there are a ZILLION stairs that you have to take down to the falls and there was snow everywhere, so walking was difficult lol). We also headed into Bloomington and went to a game store–we don’t have one where we live. I bought a game called “The World Needs a Jetpack Unicorn” which is basically an imaginative storytelling version of “would you rather.” It seems really fun!! Patrick also bought a tobacco pipe, which he has been wanting to do for forever.

I feel like overall, I did REALLY well with food this weekend, especially at meals. The meals we eat at retreat are buffet style, and there is always delicious fried chicken and lots of starches. I at a big salad with every meal (go me!) and I had one SMALL piece of fried chicken at each dinner and the one lunch–so total this whole weekend, I ate one fried chicken leg, one tiny wing, and one small thigh. Let’s be honest…last year, I would have eaten all three of those pieces at ONE MEAL. In addition, I stayed away from the rolls on the table and ate quite a few green veggies like broccoli and green beans with my meals instead of potatoes. I didn’t even eat dessert on Friday night–I treated myself to a piece of pie last night, but that was it. For breakfast yesterday, I filled half of my plate with fresh fruit and ate a small amount of scrambled eggs and one sausage link. I was REALLY proud of myself!!

I did, however, go a bit crazy with snacks last night. I didn’t go as crazy as I used to, but I still had a few wheat thins, some cheese puffs, and a couple of chocolate thingies. I counted them all though on my point counter–no regrets!

I still have 5 activity points left to eat this week before breaking into my weekly points. I’d like to NOT bust into those if at all possible. Tomorrow morning will be tough–we’re having a carry-in breakfast at work. Ugh. Biscuits and gravy, hash brown casserole, donuts…the list goes on. I will have to be very selective and just choose something, or a tiny bit of each thing I think. We’ll see!! I’m also planning on 30 min zumba tonight, 60 min zumba tomorrow, and another 30 on Tuesday. Yay!

Hope you all had a relaxing weekend–I know we sure did! Look at how great Patrick looks with a pipe:

So British-looking, smoking his pipe and reading his James Herriot book on our back porch!

NSV Friday

Happy Friday, everyone! I for one am THRILLED that it’s almost the weekend…this week has been crazy at work and I am ready for a break. Patrick and I are headed to a beautiful state park for a 2-night stay in the lodge–we can’t wait! Patrick’s mom is the director of a church choir in Indianapolis, and every year they do a “choir retreat” in late January. It’s a fun-filled weekend of singing, eating, and being merry while relaxing in the beautiful hills of southern Indiana. We leave tonight after work and I am SO READY. I am a little nervous about the food–all of our meals are buffet style and there is always a LOT of fried chicken…sigh.

At any rate, it’s NSV Friday. I always worry about this post because I’m afraid I’ll have nothing to say, but the last two weeks, there have been multiple things that come to mind.

First of all, my #1 NSV this week is that a MALE co-worker noticed that I’ve lost weight. Sure, it only took him 56 lbs lost to notice, but it’s still a big deal to me. I know it’s silly that a male coworker noticing means more to me than my female coworkers, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t. Conversation:

“Whoa, Kelly, have you been losing weight?”
“Yeah, like 56 lbs of it…”
“Oh my gosh–how?”
“Zumba and Weight Watchers”
“That’s awesome! Congrats!!”

It was pretty stellar. My other NSV is that today I am wearing the sweater from my “before” pic:

This is me when I weighed around 265 or 270 in December of 2012!

This is me when I weighed around 265 or 270 in December of 2012!

This sweater is very big and bulky so I decided to take a pic this morning before work with it pulled back to show what my shape is now:

Ho-ly crap on a cracker! Soooo different! So I am really excited about that 🙂

Hope all ya'll have a great weekend–anyone have any great plans? I hope to take some pics from choir retreat…I'm really looking forward to it!

Wednesday Weigh-In

Weigh In Wednesday

Well, it’s the dreaded weigh-in of each week. I had been looking forward to this weigh-in as I gained 2.6 lbs last week of what I believe to be a combo of muscle/water weight–and I think that I was mostly right!

"--19.0"

“–19.0”

Yay, that’s a loss of 2 whole lbs, which puts me at a total loss now of 56 lbs! Woohoo! So I’m not quite down to my lowest weight in this weight loss journey (which was 216.4), but I’m pretty damn close. I’ll take 217 🙂

I should also mention that since I’ve been tracking my measurements every week since the start of the new year, this week I lost 0.5 inches off my waist and 0.5 inches off my thighs. YAY! Those stupid hips aren’t moving at all, but we’ll get there, slowly but surely!

I didn’t end up doing zumba last night–after work, I had string ensemble from 5:30-7. It is SO HARD to go to a rehearsal after working from 8am-5pm, but I do it so that I can keep my viola chops up. Then, we went straight to my mom and dad’s to watch the series 3 premiere of Sherlock that my mom had DVR’d. It was really good, although I think I need to watch it again as it jumped around a lot and most of the time I was confused about what I was seeing, lol. It was nice to see it again, though! When we got home, it was around 10:30pm, and I was exhausted. I know I could’ve squeezed in 30 minutes but I got in bed and crashed. It seems like it wasn’t a big deal though, since I lost 2 lbs regardless. Next week is TOM week–ugh. Every time I have a good loss or get back to where I was, TOM comes around and ruins everything. Boo. I’m going to stay positive though!

I’ll be doing an hour of zumba again at the Y tonight, tomorrow, and Monday again. Looking forward to it! Hope all my friends out there have a great WI as well. Remember not to define yourself by this number!!

Weekend Update

Well, it was a relaxing and fun-filled weekend for us. Friday night, we had game night at Bre and Scott’s and played some Walking Dead Risk:

risk

This was a really fun game, and I especially liked it because it was based off the Comic Books, not the tv show. I’m halfway through the second compendium of the comic books, so it was really neat to play. I definitely didn’t win (not very good at strategy games) but I didn’t come in last place, so that was good.

On Saturday, we chilled out virtually all day and I did chores around the house. I did make these delicious things on a whim:

pep biscuits in tin

pep biscuits on plate

inside of pep biscuits

I had bought 2 cans of pillsbury refrigerated biscuits and only used one for the monkey bread I made Friday night, so I used the biscuits, some mozz cheese, some pepperoni, and tomato sauce to make these delicious little pizza biscuit cups. They were so easy and SO GOOD. All the ingredients were leftover from the stromboli, so it worked out perfectly. I hardly EVER am able to throw anything together like that and make it edible–but these were amazing. I’ll definitely be making them again!

Bre and Scott and Cadie came over on Friday night around 9pm to hang out and play some surprise DnD. Our friends Jason and Jake came over, and we didn’t end up playing until probably 10pm or a little after–we finished playing around 2am or so. I don’t think we went to bed until around 3, and Scott and Bre and Cadie stayed in our guest room. Of course the little 3-yr-old was wide awake at 8am, so we only got about 5 hours of sleep. We were tired!

We went to breakfast w/ Bre, Scott, and Cadie at one of our fave little diner type places, Cackleberries. I got a meat-lovers skillet: sausage, bacon, eggs, cheese, and american fries. O.M.G. So delicious. I meant to take a pic of it and totally forgot–I could only eat half of it though before I was super full!

Patrick and Scott went to play DnD (their friend Brian’s game that Bre and I don’t play) for the day and Bre, Cadie and I just hung out at my place. Cadie watched movies all day and Bre and I researched cosplay options for Gencon. So far, we’re thinking of dressing up for 4 days: Fullmetal Alchemist, Battlestar, Dexter, and Titanic. Bre and I (mostly Bre) are writing/running a Cthulhu larp based on the Titanic on Saturday night of the con (it’s going to be SWEET) and are going to dress up that night in Edwardian costumes. I found a beautiful dress that I think I’m going to buy: http://www.etsy.com/listing/157038577/edwardian-dress-plus-size-handmade-in?ref=shop_home_active_15.

My only dilemma, as you could probably guess, is that I have no idea when or what size to buy it in. Gencon is in mid-August, and I’m hoping to have lost more weight by then…but I really don’t know what “size” I’ll be. Plus, I believe that dress ships from overseas, so it’ll take a while to receive it. Sigh. Losing weight and buying clothes is hard. Also, the dress is expensive! Tax return money, perhaps? I think I’ll buy it early and then have it altered for the con–last time I had a dress altered, it only cost me about $10.

I did manage to work out yesterday–2 miles!! Woo! Here is my workout schedule this past week:

Wednesday: 60 min zumba at the Y
Thursday: 60 min zumba at the Y
Friday: rest
Saturday: rest
Sunday: 2 miles (35 minutes or so, walking DVD at home)
Monday: 60 min zumba at the Y
Tuesday: 30 min zumba at home

That’s a pretty good workout schedule, and earned me 26 activity total. By the end of Tuesday, I’ll have eaten all of my activity points and only ONE of my weekly points! Woohoo…hoping for a loss, as I didn’t do any major weight/strength training this week.

Anyone do anything fun this weekend?

NSV Friday

button

Happy Friday to all, friends! I have been looking forward to this post for a couple of days now, seeing as I had a horrid weigh-in this week. My NSV this week has anything and everything to do with fitness; I really feel like I hit a new level of fitness awesomeness this week, starting with my 4-mile walk on Monday evening. During that walk, I really felt invincible. I know that sounds SO super silly, but it’s true! I felt like I could keep going forever. Typically, my asthma will slow me down a little, but that time, my lungs were feeling awesome. I wonder if part of it is that I did the walking DVD in our bedroom, and I had the humidifier on at the same time. Not sure–but it was still fantastic. I was definitely out of breath, but for the first 2 miles and the 4th mile, I could chat with Patrick. CHAT WITH SOMEONE WHILE WORKING OUT?! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?! I’ve never, EVER been able to do that before. And I felt great.

Then came zumba toning on Wednesday night. Oh my word, it was ah-may-zing. It was just like the 4-mile walk, but somehow better. I felt like I could have zumba-ed for another hour. I was sweating like crazy, but I couldn’t get over just how good it felt. I know I sound like an insane person (who REALLY likes working out, I mean honestly), but I did that night. I actually LIKED it. I mean, I like zumba because it’s fun–but never like that before. I was feeling it. During the break, I was talking to one of the ladies who goes to most of the classes that I do. She asked me when the last time was that I had been to the class, and I told her that it was before Christmas…I had told her before the class started that even though I hadn’t been TO the YMCA physically, I had done a combo of zumba/work out dvd’s at home in between. So at the break she was like “Well, since you haven’t been here since Christmas, I really know what you’re feeling right now.” And I just wanted to be like, “betch! I worked out ALL THE TIME during the holidays. You don’t even know!” Lol. That’s the sass in me–but I just said “Actually, I feel awesome. I worked out at home in between so I’m not feeling anything but great right now. I did 4 miles on Monday night.” Hahahahaha that is so horrible but I was annoyed that she said that to me, even though I’m sure she didn’t mean it that way. I can’t even remember what she said to that; she’s really nice, but it just really annoyed me at the time. I think she was feeling it herself as she hadn’t been since before Christmas either. Who knows, it really isn’t a big deal lol and she is super nice so I need to stop my grouching!

At any rate, it has been a GREAT week for fitness, despite the super-gain. I am really crossing my fingers that the gain is muscle holding water, and that I’ll see a nice loss next week. I’ve been staying on plan eating-wise, so that helps. I plan on doing some zumba and/or walking DVDs at home this weekend alongside another zumba class at the Y on Monday. I did go to zumba again last night and it was a bit harder than it was on Wednesday; I think I was a little tired from toning the night before. But 2 nights in a row for a zumba class is awesome! After I went to class, I drove to Patrick’s pool game at my fave local dive bar (his team’s home base) and had 2 Bud Lights and some popcorn, which I had alloted for in my points for the day. It was totally worth it and a great little reward for my hard work!

Anyone have any fun weekend plans? We don’t have any, aside from hopefully taking down our holiday decorations. Tonight is game night and I’m going to try monkey bread in the crockpot for dessert. I hope it works out! Everyone have a safe and happy weekend!
